Will my iPhone break if I try to connect it to an older device?

I have a thing in my car that connects to an iPod like the usb docking thing on an iPod wire. This lets me play my iPod through the car speakers. However, this thing was made before the iPhone really came out. I have an iPhone 3Gs, and was just wondering if plugging it in would cause any damage to the actual phone. I have a first generation iPod Touch 16GB and the home button does not work?

Not only does the home button not work but now none of my computers will detect the iPod is even connected. Here it is when I cut it off and plug it in the iPod turns on so it knows it is being connected somewhere. It won’t start charging and iTunes doesnt see it. Now when I plug it into my dock in the car it works fine I can play music and it charges. Yeah, bose is the best and i’m sure it’s hard to find at a discount price. i’ll probably either have to bone up and pay the money or wait until the noteriety wears off and the price goes down. Last thing i want to do is get an "open box sale" and find out it’s broken.

Hi, how do I use a Griffin Itrip to play my Ipod with my car stereo?

I bought a Griffin Itrip with dock connector off ebay to connect my Ipod to my car stereo, and while it came with the actual Itrip, there was no cord.
