how to play mp3 content through existing home stereo?
I would like to purchase an mp3 player but don’t know which kind to purchase. I have looked at sony and ipod with their docking stations. I don’t want to purchase external speakers etc. I would like to connect the mp3 player to my existing Sony home stereo, which has surround sound. How do I do this? What cables do I need etc. Can it be done? If so which one is the best to buy.

go to wal-mart or radio shack and get an rca plug (it has a black/male part on one end and a "y" red and white/male part on the other. Plug the black plug into your headphone plug on the mp3 player and the red and white plugs into your "video in". Turn on your mp3 and search for the right "function" on your stereo.
if your stereo has cassete player you just simply need a cassete adapter which cost about $ 20 bucks !!!!!!!!!!
You can convert it back into an audio file or get a system that plays mp3′s as well. I have a cd player in my car which plays mp3′s
Try the Samsung Yepp YP-Z5QB / YP-Z5QS (1 or 2 GB) MP3 Player. It works like an i-pod, but not as much responsibility. You can fit about 250/400 songs on it and some pictures if you want. It is pretty convenient when it comes to the battery, but some people may mistake it for a cell phone…it is about $150/$200, but so worth it. and the transitions from one folder to the other is so awsome! It like…flies out at you and disappears. It gives you the time too, and the volume button is on the side, rather than with the song on an i-pod, much more easier to control. to scroll down and select stuff, you lightly press in the up and down arrows, rather that going round and round on an i-pod, again, easier to controll.
the problem isn’t with the mp3 player as they can all output to any home stereo… the problem is with the home stereo as they do not all have a way of taking the sound in…
If your stereo has an extra (AUX) or (LINE) input you’re fine, just connect the mp3 player to that… if it doesn’t but has a cassette deck then you can buy one of those car stereo cassette adaptors but it might not fit (door/tray won’t shut properly) and it could break your homestereo (it broke mine, also a sony but a very cheap one.)
You will need to get a stereo mini-to-RCA adapter that can be
found and virtually and consumer electronics store. Connect
it to your receiver’s R & L audio inputs.
