how can i connect my ipod touch to tv without dock?

hey guys, i bought an A/V Composite cable to connect my iPod touch 3g to T.V, but i didn’t buy the dock. So now, when i connect it to T.V, it doesn’t show anything. I checked all the setting and everything is alright, but i don’t get any result… what should i do?
