Help decide between just an MP3 player and a phone with a built in MP3 player?
Any pros and cons appreciated; I have a year old really simple cell phone, eligible for an upgrade to a different phone. I want an MP3 player for storing and listening to audiobooks mostly, maybe some music. I’m with Verizon and they recommend the Chocolate. What would better – upgrading to a Chocolate (will cost me about 5) or upgrading to a free phone and buy an MP3 player? I’m looking for a 4GB player, and not an iPod. Do MP3 players have docking stations for use as speakers? or are those docking speakers just for iPods?

I have a Verizon Chocolate phone and compared to a stand alone player dare I say iPod they stink, they music takes awhile to load, small amounts of memory get a standalone mp3 player. Which one? I’m not sure why you don’t want an iPod, but Zunes are pretty nice, along with the Creative Zen. If I had a choice I’d get the creative player because they support subscription music and use Windows Media Player to sync, while the Zune uses it’s VERY clunky unfriendly software. Creative also offers speakers like you want check out their website. — Micgerwal
I don’t understand why people don’t like ipods? ya, they malfunction a lot, but are amazing compared to having a million cd’s.
i would definately get a free phone and an mp3 player though. i think the built in music on phones is a waste.

free phone and mp3
mp3′s have multiple kinds of docks (portable etc)
and u can use an ipod dock for an mp3
ps. u have to buy the songs for the ipod sooo theres no point
go with the free phone and mp3
