Do i need the Dock for the ipod shuffle second generation to charge and put music on it?
Just got a new usb cord for my ipod and two came in the little box. A short and long one. I would like to know what is the short one is for and why my computer wont recognize the ipod. how to fix or restore the ipod? Any help appreciated.

Sorry to tell you, but those USB cords you got are for the third generation iPod shuffle. I tried and it is not compatible with the second generation. To answer your first question, yes you do need the dock to use your shuffle. However, many companies are selling USB keys that let you sync and charge the shuffle. One company, Incipio, sells one for $8.
