I really don’t listen to the radio while I am driving, I listen to my Ipod. My car stereo has an Aux jack in the front where I plug the Ipod double-ended male jack cable into. The other end, of course goes in the headphone jack of the ipod.

The problem lies whenever I want to charge the ipod from the dock connector AND LISTEN to music at the same time. It DOES NOT MATTER if the engine is running or not, but there is line noise coming from somewhere and heard over the car speakers, and I can’t pinpoint it.

The noise sometimes varies in pitch and sometimes it just stays at one static hiss level.

The car stereo is not the problem because when it is playing a CD or on a radio station, there is no interference. I have tried other ipods in the car with the same resulting hiss. The only two causes it could be is the cigarette lighter USB charger (I have tried another cigarette lighter USB charger and I STILL GET A HISS!) AND/OR the USB Charging cord which connects to the docking port of the IPOD to charge the IPOD. But I can rule this out because I HAVE tried other USB charge/sync cables and I STILL GET A HISS.

Remember, I get a hiss regardless if the engine is on or off and the key is in ACC (Accessories).

The only thing I think it may be is that something is not sheilded, like the audio cable which connects from the ipod to the aux jack in the front face of the car stereo.

…Or maybe I am wrong…………I dunno……….

Is it possible to find a SHIELDED 3.5mm double-ended male cable to fit between the ipod and the car stereo aux jack? Think this would help??

Is it possible to find a USB car charger that filters out RF interference??? Think THIS would help??

………Just a note………its NOT only an Ipod problem either. My cellphone ALSO hisses out of the speakers when connectd to the aux jack of the stereo while charging from its OWN charger…

ok, so i hope this is the right section for this, it’s kind of a random question.
i’ve been working on my car’s audio system for a good while, subs, amp, speakers, etc.
i put in an aux. imput, that is for an ipod. i am trying to make this weird hole in my car into an ipod docking station. this wont be too hard, i have a good idea what to do for it.
the problem is i want to make it a telescopic cable, because i don’t want it to have to sit in the dock the whole time while changing music and everything. i’ve been looking, and am yet to find a telescopic ipod extender. i haven’t even found a regular extender for less than 40 bucks. i don’t mind paying that if i can make it telescopic. is there a good way to do that? or maybe just have a spool that it can wrap up on. make it telescopic that way?
does anyone know the best way to do this, and if there isn’t an easy/cheap way.
or if you have any other ideas to do with this.

My birthday is coming up and I was gonna ask for a Ipod.
Because it works with so many cool accessories.
But then someone told me that I should invest in an Itouch instead because the future of MP3′s will be like that, and the Ipod will kinda be extinct. They say I will have more use for the Itouch.
However ?
I see my self using an Ipod more, like hooking it up to the car to listen to music, getting a boombox dock for it and just stuff like that.
What do you guys think? I mean I like the fact that you can go online and all with the Itouch, but it just seems like I can have both.

I had the Emerson Research iPod dock for a bit more than two years now, and for the first good year and a half, my iPod touch 2g (up to date) played fine. But for the last few months, it only makes a faint static noise when I switch it to the iPod function. It plays the radio fine, so the speakers arnt the problem, and it also charges the iPod and shows they’re connected, it just won’t play music! It’s very frustraiting and isn’t mentioned in the instruction manual. FYI it works fine on other docks, car jacks, etc.

I want to listen to my ipod via the car speakers using an auxilary input because its a direct line to the speakers, and what i have now is the cigarette lighter plug in which connects through the car radio, and it has miserable connection/quality. Its a 2005 base model vibe pontiac with automatic transmission and on the radio theres the cd/aux input option but there is no auxilary input, and trust me i know what im looking for. however, there might be one on the back but i dont know because i havent disconnected the radio. i want to be able to plug my ipod in using the headphone jack, not the docking port, so this would work with mp3 players as well. what can i do? is there an adapter i can buy that will plug into something on the back?

A few days ago, my iPod was left in a car(not in the sun though) while it was charging for a few minutes. I noticed when I took it off that it was hot(but not from the heat in the car as the A/C was on) and the screen is totally black & won’t come back on. I’ve tried restarting it & charging it on my Dock & on the Computer & neither work, the back just gets hot again. Please help!
I’ve tried to restart it numerous times & it still won’t work. We’re thinking it might just need a new battery…? What do you think???

Does anyone know if it is possible to upload your listening history (from your Ipod) of things you listened to prior to registering with Last.FM and downloading Scrobbler?

When I’m listening to songs via iTunes then it automatically adds it to my Last.FM page, but is there anyway I can have it to count the times I listen to songs just direct from my iPod. I mostly listen to my music either having my iPod hooked up to my car or by using my docking station at home so would need to be able to measure songs listened on my Ipod in this way.

Cheers Matthew but that is what I’ve already done, it seems to transfer the history of what I’ve listened to via iTunes/my iPod while my iPod is connected to the computer but it has not transferred anything from when I listen to my iPod and it’s not connected to my PC. I must have listened to at least a few hundred hours worth of music on my iPod and that is clearly not visible on my Last.FM page.

I have a couple of questions. But let me fill you in on the details I have an ipod video (30gb) and the headphones insert dosent work. But when I plug it in to the dock on my Ihome it works fine. Im buying a car soon and Id like to play it on my AUX. Is their a piece equipment that will plug the dock to the headphone insert in the car? Ok so I was on a school trip where all different schools go to a university/college for a week to see what it would be like if we went there, & we got our own dorms and everything.

Anyway I was good friends with this girl who went to my school who was going on the trip too and i already knew to her cause i talked to her quite a few times at school and stuff & she used to run up to me and randomly hug me sometiems :L we where not CLOSE friends but good friends and she was always really nice to me at school and stuff & I’ve always thought she was one of the nicest people ever. But one night when we where both locking our dorms ( we where next door to each other) she said to me, ‘Oh you dont have to lock it, they lock by themselves when you close them’. ‘And I was like oh.. Well im just going to use the key to be safe anyway, haha ’ cause I had like my ipod docking station :L which my parent would kill me if i lost it. Anyway I thought maybe she was telling the truth so I checked later but my door definetly did not lock by itself, if i just closed it i could open it again right away. Another thing is it was her birthday a few nights later so to celebrate me her and a few other girls where in her dorm she went to another room and told us when we left just to close the door on our way out, so when we all left I was the last one and I closed the door and went to my own room. The next morning she was asking shocked, how her room managed to lock when she had the key, she then started to talk about how it was freaky her door locked itself and her room must be haunted or something. Anyway If her door like she told me auto locked when you closed it, why would she be freaking out if that was true? :S

I know all the facts are there saying that she was trying to steal from me… but It’s just so hard to beleive shes always been so nice to me.. but I guess you can never trust anyone, what do you think?

I’ve been considering buying the family’s first IPod (the IPod nano 4th generation) for a few days now, and was wondering if anyone has any real problems with it. Many people at amazon.com who gave it a one star rating had the following problems:
1-IPod is not compatible with other IPod accessories
2-IPod only stays charged for 4-5 hours or less (24 hours was promised)
3-IPod only charges on/with computer
4-With even the slightest giggle, the IPod goes into "cover flow", preventing you from changing the volume. You have to hold the IPod upright for a little bit in order to fix itself. It is very difficult to fix this.
5-Album covers get mixed up, song/band doesn’t match the cover shown.
6- The edges of the IPod/ screen are curved. It is difficult to prevent glare from appearing on the screen.

All of these will be a hassle for me except for 1, because this is our first IPod, we own none of the previous IPod charging stations, docking stations, etc. 2, 3, and 4 will be the biggest issue for me. I need my power on my MP3 player to last for more than 4-5 hours (for long car trips), I don’t always have access to a computer to charge any device (vacations), and I always take my MP3 player on the school bus, which I’m affriad will irritate the IPod, because of the josteling.

Has anyone ever had problems like these? Are there any other problems that I should know about? Is there anyway to fix them for good if they do appear? If you own this type of IPod, does the good outweigh the bad? Is it even worth buying at all?

(If it helps what-so-ever, the one I would like to purchase is a red IPod nano 4g, engraved, from the Apple store on their website.)

I am 16 so I DON’T have money to blow on something more than like USD more or less. Haha I don’t have an iPod dock, headphone thingy, or a cassette player. I tried plugging in though the cigarette lighter and that didn’t work so I just have the radio and a CD player. And my laptop isn’t compatible with my portable CD drive thingy so I can’t burn CD’s. Life is great… :b It’s a waste to burn that many CD’s anyways because I’m a big music person and I’d have about 50 CD’s by the time I’m done burning just the essential favourites…
My car is a 2006 Mini Cooper so if you have/have had one and there is a headphone jack that I don’t know about, please let me know. I’ve checked thoroughly though and I don’t think there is one…

My iPod won’t charge on the dock or the usb cord. I also tried a car charger. It had the low battery sign from when it gets really low. Now the screen is all black and when I try to restart it there are lines on the screen. It is only 3 months old. Its the new 80gb iPod classic. How can I charge it?

Before we continue, I have updated my itunes and I have done the manual reset of the ipod by pushing the center button and the menu button at the same time. The ipod still functions and will play music through a sound dock that I have… but the dock will no longer charge the ipod. I (luckily) have an FM transmitter for my car that DOES charge it, so I can still use it. I also took it to a local retailer and docked it on several sound docks and some would charge it, some would not. Strange, eh? Anyway, if anyone has seen anything like this and has a tip to offer, I would greatly appreciate it.
